Programming by Example - Visual Interfaces

In the mid 1970s Smith introduced the technique of Programming by Example with a program called Pygmalion, Smith elaborated on this in Watch What I Do: Programming by Demonstration (Chapter 1). This demonstrated the need to describe algorithms through concrete examples rather than abstractly. 'Example-based Programming: a pertinent visual approach for learning to program' (Guibert et al, 2004) explain and expands on Smiths work with an example demonstrating how numbers fail to reveal the concept behind them. The example is a numerical representation of a triangle. This representation is 'fregean' because it does not show the concept of a triangle. Next to this is a diagram of the triangle that does show the concept. Next to this is a diagram of the triangle that does show the concept, this is referred to as 'analogical' representation because it includes the context of the information. Including the context of the information allows a person to discover meanings or relationships in the information which would not always be obvious. (Hanna, 2005) and (Elliott, 2006)provide an interface for direct manipulation of shapes in this analogical way by creating an interactive triangle manipulation example using the Haskell functional programming language.

Semantic web languages allow for the context of the information to be represented in documents and so make it possible to represent information in an analogical way, as well as allowing two way interaction, leading to an improvement in information discovery.

The development of visual user interfaces has been a major step forward. The use of pictorial metaphors such as folders to represent a collection of files has greatly aided human computer interaction. Pictorial metaphors give visual feedback so the user knows what the software system is doing. This technique can be used more dynamically in simulations. Simulations represent the real world problem and provide constant feedback to the user on how the system is progressing. In this sense, all software should be regarded as a simulation. Pictorial metaphors are static, while a users' mental model is made up of mental images connected together by a set of rules. The user runs a mental model like a simulation. Static user interfaces rely on a user to string together images into a mental model which correctly represents what the system is doing. A user may generate a mental model in response to user interface metaphors which is inconsistent with the system model.

Simulation can help to ensure that the designers' model, system model and users' model are all the same. This subject is explored in [Crapo et al. 2000 and 2002] and is the basis of the visualisation techniques used to enable the user to create and understand models that are subsequently translated into software representations. This is also explained in chapter one of Watch What I Do: Programming by Demonstration [Cypher, 1993], explains how the Pygmalion language attempts to bridge the gap between the programmer's mental model of a subject and what the computer can accept. The author of this system David Smith went on to develop office oriented icons as part of the Xerox's "Star" computer project.

How To Increase The Popularity Of Your New Software

These are all extra methods to get traffic to your new software. They might not be so commonly used but have a lot of benefits. They can boost the popularity of your software in no time. Some can even drive a ton of sales almost overnight. These work with any type of software product.

Pad file submission

One of the fastest method to get traffic to your new software is by submitting it to the hundreds of software directories. You need to create the so called PAD file. You can find free tools online that will help you make this pad file.

They allow pad file submissions so if you update your software information you simple update your pad file instead of re submitting your software again.

The pad file, which ends in .xml instead of .com or .html is what you submit to these so called software directories. There are semi automated tools that will help you in the submission process.

If you software is not shareware or freeware, you won't be able to submit cause they only allow shareware or freeware types. Though you can create a demo and submit the demo. The benefits include the extra traffic from all these directories and also the backlinks you get. Most often they let you list your home page along with download link of your software.

Some hot directories like download.com, tucows.com might not be free but every other directory allows submission for free.

Joint Ventures JV

There are many newsletters online and some have plenty of subscribers that read every issue. Your objective is to create a special offer and email the newsletter owners related to your niche. Ask them for a joint venture.

If the newsletter owner accepts he will send an email advertising your software product to his list. In return he earns a percentage of each sale. Both parties benefits. Making JV's is a very hot tool to get sales fast. Nowadays you can find forums that where members co operate with each other to make JV's.

If you take JV's serious and plan to find as many JV partners as possible you might want to obtain some JV tools like JV manager to help you manage everything. Such tools already exist.

You can find plenty of newsletters on any niche using google.com search engine.

Create affiliate program

First of all there is the benefit of gaining popularity quickly on the Internet. Your affiliates might also create sites and place links to your own increasing the backlinks for your site. Since backlinks increase even your search engine rankings. Clickbank allows creating and maintaining your affiliate program a breeze.

Marketers that are looking for a free affiliate program might search Clickbank and join yours if you do register with clickbank. That is a great benefit.

The more popular your software product becomes more exposure and one way links you start receiving. One way to do that is to create an affiliate product and give a good percentage of the sale to your affiliates. At least over 50%.

Blogging

This may sound too easy but if done right you can generate sales from your blog as well. Reviewing your product and recommending it is one of the best methods to sell your product.

Since you are the owner, you may want to hire someone from scriptlance.com and he creates and maintains the blog. The objective is to let users know how much you love the software. Why you found it useful? Talk about it as if talking to a friend, then recommend it in the end.

When doing so, you should also add other posts relating to the type of software you are selling. That way the blog has also other useful information. If the software is related to golf, you may need to create some posts first that talk about golf instructions or golf lessons. Then post the review. There is no need to create 20 - 30 posts though!

That method was proven to work. People love to purchase the product if someone else suggested or recommended.

Creating ebooks

You are the owner of the software so you know the most about it. So you can also create an ebook and talk about its features. The idea is to give away the ebook that contains a link to your site. Give it free from your site, or write articles and place a link where people can download it free. Forum signatures also generate some traffic.

Give resell rights to the ebook so people can give it to their friends. One other method that works is selling your ebook on ebay.com. Many people visit ebay every day so you get a lot of exposure to your ebook which later guides people to your site.

The idea is to spread the ebook so every one that reads the useful information will also click on the link that directs him to your software sales page or site.

Newsletter

Let visitors of your site download your ebook or optin for a newsletter. This way they will see your site url and possible click to visit it more often. You won't loose any customers this way. If they don't purchase they might subscribe and purchase later on.

This method also works very well. Let them know in your messages about your software either by providing a signature or creating messages explaining the use of your software.

Press release

This will generate backlinks and traffic but only if you right a great story about your new software. It is advised to learn how to write a proper press release first so it won't can declined. Then you can submit it to major directories like prweb, prloop and hundreds more.

This causes popularity of your software to improve. Press releases are also used to promote websites not just a new hot product. Some other recommended places that do get lots of traffic are craiglist.com which allows you to post a classified ad. Myspace.com allows you to create groups.

Creating a group around your niche on myspace helps you to get exposure and even sales since there are plenty of members and traffic on that social site.

Spyware Remover - Why Should You Invest In A Good One

Spyware and adware are also known as malware. They are files that are created by publishers to allow them to spy on your web surfing activity to see what you purchase and what web sites you visit so that they can send you "pop-up" ads. They are malicious in their own right as they can confiscate your credit card information, which can spell disaster for you. On the lesser side of damage, they can slow your computer down or cause it to freeze up or crash. But on the higher side of damage, they will record credit card numbers or worse.

It is easy to get these types of bugs simply from surfing the net, reading email, downloading files etc. These are the most popular of computer infections with over 90% computers infected at one given time. The good news is that there are very good spyware and adware removal tools available on the net. As long as you stay on top of things by regularly running your spyware remover, you can keep them in check.

A Trojan (horse) on the other hand is a computer program that claims to do something interesting so that you download it and are tricked into running it. It may look like a useful program, but it can hold big problems for your computer within its structure. Once you run it, the havoc begins. The danger ranges from annoying to severe. They can do silly things to your computer like changing your desktop, redirecting your browser to other web pages or adding icons to your desktop - pretty annoying but hardly a catastrophe. The more severe Trojans can cause serious damage to your computer and delete or destroy information on your computer. Trojans also create what is known as a "backdoor" on your computer that gives malicious users access to your computer remotely. This is the perfect setup for those looking to steal your personal information and your identity. The good news is that they can not replicate themselves and are easy to detect if you have a good spyware remover.

There are several things that you can do to protect your computer from computer bugs. You need a good anti-virus software package coupled with adware and spyware removal software. When combined together, anti-virus, adware and spyware removal software can be a powerful combination to detect and remove all types of pests from your computer.

Reviews on Free Business Card Printing Software

Business cards are essential to the business owner who wants to make sure that his name and the name of his company is easily remembered. Networking is extremely popular and you don’t want to miss an opportunity to pass out your card to someone who might become valuable to you in the future. However, business cards can sometimes be expensive and it takes time to place an order and wait for your cards to arrive. For that reason, more and more people are turning to free business card printing software in order to make their own cards from home.

You can easily find several free business card software packages by doing a search online. A lot of the software is available on a trial basis, meaning that you can only use it for a predetermined amount of time before you have to either stop using it or purchase the program. Other trial programs do not expire, but only give you limited functionality. You might only have access to a certain number of templates or you might only be allowed to print a certain number of cards. However, these trials do afford you an excellent opportunity to check out the programs and see if they are what you want to use when you do your business card printing.

The options available vary depending on what software you use. Most will give you templates which allow you to simply type in your information and print out the cards. Others allow you to design your own cards from scratch. They might give you borders, clip art, or font choices which give you a lot of options. Some of the more basic software packages might limit the type of card you can make, but look for the more advanced software which allows you to make double-sided cards as well as horizontal or vertical cards.

Maintaining A Website

There was an era when people were talking about how to create a website using html coding or some easy tools to create attractive website in seconds. Today we promote our website by bringing more target visitors to the website.

There are basically two ways of doing web promotion i.e. paid and un-paid. Paid marketing brings quick results to the website whereas unpaid marketing brings slow response to the website but it is effective too. Now let’s see how it works. Before going into web promotion, first of all the website should be polished or SEO (Search engine optimization – optimizing website for search engine robot to crawl or read the website easily) so that, the major search engine robots can visit the website and update our web content.

Now let us see how this is done.

Step 1: Ensure each of the pages has Title, Keywords and Description. Here is the code that can be copy paste to the header of the web-pages.

The coding above is a sample extracted from a small broadband website. The letters which is highlighted bold is the text that a site owner is required to input, the other texts are the coding that has to be placed as it is in header of a page.

Step 2: Once the title, keywords and description is done, the next step is to create a sitemap. Sitemap enables spider (spider : a robot from google, yahoo, altavista and other search engines that reads and store the content of the website in the search engine database) to read each and every page, see the example at: http://www.evision.com.pk

These are some very basic steps, although there are many other steps like writing quality content, adding information and article to the website, etc which would bring good traffic to the website.

Step 3: Now after going through the above 2 steps the website is ready to get submitted to major search engines. Here are few links to submit the website for free in google, yahoo, dmoz and altavista

Once the site completes the above steps now there is a question that how to bring more traffic to the website. So as mentioned earlier, the 2 methods i.e. fast and paid method and slow but free method.

In fast promotional / paid method, keywords that people usually searched, for example to reach 1800flowers.com people would search for send flowers, send valentine flowers, etc in search engine, are listed and best of the listed are added to the yahoo, google and to other search engine accounts, these keywords are then placed on top when anyone search for it in the search engine. Each keyword starts at 10 cents per click and goes upwards. There are many other sites besides search engine, which offer paid advertisement solutions and they are good too for promoting the website. These are called paid advertisement.

Mechanical Design And Drawing—the Cad Wonderland

Mechanical design and drafting has significantly benefited today's refined mechanical and engineering designers. Although. Some of the generally cited benefits include improved accuracy, efficiency along with easy interference inspection, better layout, labeling and dimensioning. No matter how CAD system is used, it is very much capable of handling the varied requirements of mechanical and electrical designers.

Mechanical design and drawing is a growing field and reaps the maximum benefits nowadays. The software used in the mechanical drawings range from autoCAD (DWG, DXF) to microStation (DGN) from adobe illustrator (AI) to coreldraw (CDR) and vectorworks, etc. The applications include assembly drawings for all types of mechanical assemblies, architectural schematics, structural designs, and auto components designs.

Amongst the various applications of mechanical design, the vital consumers are: 1. Mechanical Drawings for Architects: Architects use mechanical design for 3-D still images, Photo realistic renderings, Animations, 3-D Walk-through/Fly-through and 360 degrees view of building

2. Mechanical Drawings for Engineers: The mechanical drawings in the engineering hold a crucial place. Communicating design ideas become better and effective, exhibiting perception becomes easy with combination of color schemes and lighting.

3. Mechanical Drawings for all fields: Building management systems, electrical circuit design, lighting calculations, HV/Transformer cabling & Installation, plant layouts, electrical circuit calculations, invisible heating solutions, PA & Voice alarm installations, intelligent building systems, IT installations, maintenance and PAT testing and CCTV and security systems.

Why You Need Construction Project Management Software?

Although many construction companies are still using spreadsheets and shoe boxes to manage their projects, the use of industry-specific project management software is becoming more prevalent. One reason for this is that more construction software providers are developing integrated project management modules to compete with the leading stand-alone project management systems.

The question is: how will your company benefit from investing in project management software?

Although project management software delivers many benefits to construction companies, this article will touch on three main deliverables: process standardization, document control and cost control.

Process Standardization. Project management software provides a standardized method of managing jobs. This streamlines each step of project execution, makes it easier for new employees to learn your system and allows existing employees to work on different projects. Standardizing project management forms (such as RFI's, submittals and transmittals) also provides a consistent look and feel to all of your documents, which presents your company in a professional manner.

Document Control. Using spreadsheets and word processing documents for your project management documentation and correspondence is somewhat flawed because it does not provide a single data repository for project information. Not only does project management software provide a single source for all of your project documents, it also provides a systematic method for documenting, tracking and following up on critical issues.

Cost Control. Managing costs on a project is the key to protecting profit. Project management software provides real-time costs that help you make profitable decisions on your jobs. The status of budgets, contracts, change orders and more are available with a click of the mouse for instant assessment - and corrective action when needed.

Although your spreadsheet system may be comfortable and familiar, it may not be the most profitable method for project management.

Malicious Thoughts About The Spyware Ills Of My PC

Who would think I was capable of such revengeful thoughts about the parties responsible for inflicting my poor computer with spyware? Well, after the trauma of having gone through such an experience for the first time, I was sorely tempted by the occult section of curses and witchcraft at my local bookstore. Growl!

Basically, I am a normal person using a home computer to perform simple normal tasks such as word processing, writing emails, internet banking, and surfing the Internet for useful information. Ok, I also have a weakness for looking for bargains on good old eBay (sheepish grin) and Paypal is quite a handy option for easy purchasing.

Problem:

Great dismay and panic hit when my pc started popping up strange windows or messages. With my limited IT knowledge, I ran a Norton virus scan which obviously revealed a number of problems. But the Symantec removal tool did not remove the spyware and I could not even log onto a couple of password protected sites. My beloved pc was infected with some malware or adware or trojan, among which, I believe was WinFixer and a Trojan Vundo. I did not know how to get rid of Vundo or how to remove WinFixer. (Or perhaps they were the one and same thing?). But at that point, I did not know any better, so began the laborious task of searching for information on how to get rid of the spyware.

Research:

From my search, I found out that the Trojan Vundo is a trojan horse that causes popups advertising rogue antispyware programs. For example, the program called Sysprotect is advertised in many of the popup windows as seen from the screenshot below. Vundo infects a computer by creating a DLL file in the Windows system directory and writes registry entries causing Windows to inject the file into winlogon.exe.

WinFixer, on the other hand, has siblings as it is identical to WinAntiVirus and ErrorSafe. And these programs all claim to repair problems within your computer system. By installing the program on your computer, you will likely end up receiving false information about your computer. Naturally, this will confuse you into believing your PC is infected with viruses, spyware and/or other forms of malware.

The popups and forced downloads apparently mirror "marketing" strategies of many spyware programs. And at times, infected computers will reduce in their level of speed and performance. Well, this all explained what was probably happening to my pc, and I knew I had to figure out how to get rid of WinFixer and Vundo before they drove me mad.

Research and solution:

In my initial panic, I reacted by downloading some recommended antispyware programs, namely CounterSpy by Sunbelt Software, XoftSpy by ParetoLogic and Spy Sweeper by Webroot Software Inc. I came to my senses by the third program and stopped myself from paying for another popular program, Spyware Doctor. But hey, all these programs did receive pretty good reviews from the experts at PCWorld, PCMag, CNet, Tucows and AdwareReport. So at the time, I did not feel that I had gone too much overboard ;)

Now, there are many sites listing all sorts of free and paid antispyware programs with a variety of reviews and user opinions on how to remove WinFixer and how to get rid of Vundo. Many of the commercial antispyware program homepages also list very detailed features of their products plus the latest research findings about current spyware threats.

Anyway, an opinion and recommendation I had read when researching for the reliable antispyware programs made heaps sense in that software you pay for is more likely to offer benefits over freeware, i.e., better support, more frequent updates and better pro-active protection measures. One just has to be careful when selecting the programs. According to the comments in the forums and review articles I had read, many recommend using at least two programs to be able to catch the latest spyware that either program might miss (that was when I stopped myself from my downloading frenzy). I have learnt much more about my pc now and wish to share and perhaps amuse you my muddled but finally effective measures to cleaning up my pc and removing the spyware.

My actions:

My initial Norton antivirus scan found but was not able to delete Vundo, even after rebooting. The Symantec removal tool did not help at all. I had disconnected from the Internet, disabled system restore, and ran the removal tool, regularly and in safe mode. After numerous startups, varying with safe mode, and disabling antivirus, I even tried to figure out how to remove Vundo manually without messing with the registry, etc. Please note that some people had success with the Symantec removal tools, and some others, like me, did not. Apart from the Trojan Vundo, I was getting quite frustrated at not being able to remove WinFixer for the many windows continually popping up started to slow my computer down, and even freeze it at times.

So I first tried Xoftspy, which was the fastest when scanning my computer. I was pleased to have fewer pop ups, was able to remove WinFixer, and ended with a much faster internet connection.

Then with my next program, Spy Sweeper, I ran it twice and then did a full system scan. Lo and behold, Vundo was gone, no more popups and adware annoyances. I guess this might not work for everyone but it is worth a shot to download Spy Sweeper.

Being still paranoid about the health of my pc, I finally ran the the free two-week trial version of CounterSpy, for extra assurance. Now I was quite impressed as it also included a scheduler, secure file shredder, and a history cleaner that made it simple to set up weekly scans. And there are frequent definition file updates for CounterSpy's publisher. The company seems to run a well-staffed spyware research department. After a scan, CounterSpy can delete, quarantine, or remove spyware. I was advised not to install Microsoft AntiSpyware alongside older versions of CounterSpy (version 1.5 and below). And it is recommended to get CounterSpy to check for online updates of definitions and program files manually.

Conclusion:

To sum it all, XoftSpy was able to delete WinFixer as the program was able to uninstall WinFixer within fifteen minutes requiring a couple of restarts. As for Spy Sweeper, it managed to remove Vundo with ease. And I have no doubt that CounterSpy has done a great job of keeping my pc free of spyware. I cannot say that I have taken the best approach to solving my problems, but my pc is now running faster than ever and I have been free of WinFixer and Vundo ever since. I just have to remember to be more careful and scan my pc regularly.

How A Trojan Virus Works

It is an astonishing statistic that Seven out of every Ten computer users do not know what a Trojan Horse virus is or what it can actually do once it has compromised their computers. If you are one of these Seven people then please read on because you really need to understand exactly what can happen to you, your computer and the other computers that you communicate with.

For the most part I would at least assume that your computer is Fire-walled. A decent firewall program is ultimately your first line of defense against a potential 'attack'. Without one you are literally putting yourself in the firing line without any weapons or armour to protect yourself. Effectively you are a sitting Duck!.

A Trojan is a small, a very small program 'The Back Orifice' Trojan Virus is in fact only 124Kbytes in size. The Trojan program consists of three parts and taking the example of the most advanced and the most popular of all the Trojan Horse programs,Sub 7 (Alias Back-door G) these are namely; Server.exe, EditServer.exe and sub-seven.exe. Once the sender of the Trojan has compromised his or her victims system then the fun can really begin for the 'Hacker'.

So what can our friendly or malicious hacker do to our computers once he has compromised it? Anything he damn well pleases is the simple honest truth. Just for starters the hacker will be informed when his victim logs on to the Internet. He will then open up one of the Three afore-mentioned files, which is his 'Client'. The Client opens up a very informative window on the hackers computer. Here he has a whole host of options open for him and at the touch of a mouse button he can either just 'open' and 'Close' your CD/DVD Tray or he can totally wipe everything from your hard drive. I guess it all depends on what type of mood he got up in that morning!. Thats how delicate a position you are in once your system is compromised.

Okay so let us assume that your computer is indeed infected with The Sub7 Trojan. What else can the attacker do. Well he can actually 'see you' through a connected camera,a picture of the current screen and an overview of what programs are currently in use. The attacker can change the screen features, windows colours, start and end programs, take over the control of your mouse and a whole host of other options. He will already have had access to all your passwords, your contacts in your address book, email addresses of all your contacts etc etc...He will know everything about you. There is also one more very important consideration to take into account, no amount of encryption, ie, those used by online Banking institutes can prevent the hacker gaining access to your Bank account. If you perform online banking then he will know what bank you are using because he can see your Window. Now he waits for you to type in your password for the site he now has that via the keylogger that is installed in the trojan and by watching what you type on your keyboard. Thirdly he awaits for you to log in to your account and 'BINGO'!, he now has your account number, sort code, credit card numbers and all of your banking details and once you log out the hacker can proceed to log into your bank account and carry out his dirty work ie steal your hard earned money.

Are you now beginning to appreciate the seriousness of the situation. The attacker can potentially not only destroy your computer, but he can quite effectively and quite easily destroy your whole life.

"Oh" and by the way, once the hacker has got control of your computer he can use your computer to launch other attacks from.He can use it for other illegal activities and should he do so then I'm afraid it is YOU! who takes the wrap. Yes thats right, you!. It is ultimately down to you, as the owner, that is solely responsible for it's safety and security. No "ifs" or "Buts" and no amount of pleading innocence or ignorance will prevent you from being prosecuted or even sent to prison! should your computer be involved in any form of illegal activity.

Is Nanotechnology Totally Useless According To You?

Nanotechnology is the science and art of constructing functional and sometimes powerful devices by manipulating single atoms until they are molecularly sized. In order to achieve some relativity on this, one must be aware that a molecule is measured in nanometers, which is, essentially, one billionth of a meter – an atom is ten times smaller than that.

As a revolutionary concept, nanotechnology covers a wide spectrum that can often be a double edged sword. In the right hands, the extreme capability of nanotechnology can be a positive contributor to medical advancements, environmental cleansing, energy conservation and many other areas that can largely improve human existence on our planet. The down side to nanotechnology is that in the wrong hands it can be a destructive force that may ultimately lead to the annihilation of human existence and even of our planet.

There are varying schools of thought on the benefits versus the threats of nanotechnology pursuits. One outlook is that replicating nanostructures could gobble up the entire planet in about three hours flat while another is that nanotechnology as a science could revolutionize medical treatments for conditions that are presently incurable using standard technology.

Nanotechnology has been credited with many beneficial improvements to existing products like fabrics that totally resist staining, scratch resistant eyewear and sunscreen that can endure greater exposure to the elements for longer periods of time. In addition, creating smaller, more powerful devices via this technology has been a positive contributor to revolutionary advancements in computers, more improved diagnostic medical testing and more efficient means of removing toxicity from areas afflicted with environment contamination. Anyone would have to agree that these advantages are certainly not totally useless attributes of nanotechnology.

Additionally, nanotechnology has been credited with creations from a biodegradable plastic made from waste products produced from fruit growing operations to experimental replacement bone tissue that will not be so easily rejected by the human body after transplant. The advantage of such a product will result in easing human suffering while actually contributing to an extended life span. Anybody wanting to improve on humanity would be hard pressed to declare breakthroughs like this as totally useless.

Despite its propensity to do good, nanotechnology could also lead to the creation of more compact and essentially more dangerous weaponry, which, if it fell into the wrong hands could lead to the development of chemical and biological weapons that are far more deadly, harder to avoid and much easier to conceal than conventional warfare.

Naysayers are quick to point out additional negativities of nanotechnology such as the ability of the military or other covert government organizations to conduct continuous, surreptitious surveillance on each and every citizen. Some go even further by concentrating on the hypothesis that nanotechnology, when used to advance greed and power, could result in total physical and/or psychiatric control of one faction over another.

Will nanotechnology ultimately result in ecophaghy – the consumption of the entire worldwide ecosphere – or will all these doomsday predilections just be totally useless fodder for overactive imaginations?

How To Make An Ipod Battery Last

The iPod's battery is a fragile little piece of equipment it seems. If you want your iPod's battery to last longer and live longer, here is a couple of tips. Some will probably seem pretty evident. But just because they are, doesn't me they aren't useful.

First of all. It is important to keep the battery at room temperature. Too hot or too cold will brim it's optimum performance, which according to Apple's docs is around 20 degrees Celsius. Wait until the iPod is at this temperature before using it.

There is a great functionality on the iPod that will also help with it's battery. The hold mechanism. Why you ask? Well, when you aren't using your iPod, and have it in your pocket, you might accidentally press the play button or any other, hence starting a tune up and devouring some battery livelihood. So when you aren't using your iPod, put that sucker on hold!

You should also charge your iPod once it is flat. This will ensure a better and longer life for your iPod. Remember that it uses some batteries even in sleep mode, so when you aren't using it, it is possible the battery will go flat. In any case, wait until this happens before charging.

When you don't use your iPod, put it in sleep mode. To do this, press the play button for a couple of seconds, it will look like it is turned off. Also use the pause button as much as possible when listening to music, but need to stop listening for some reason or another. The pause button will evidently stop the useless playing and there for the useless use of batteries.

The backlighting option. I personally don't use the backlighting, unless it is truly necessary like at night. I just flip the option on at that moment. The rest of the time, is is off. Lights use batteries so they will last less time if the backlight option is on. The same thing can apply for the equalizer. I don't use this option, as I am not a professional of sound, I can't even tell the difference with it on or off. It being off, will use much less battery life.

Changing tracks with the previous and next buttons, can also make your battery life shorter. This is because every time the iPod changes tracks, it must open the hard drive, which uses battery life evidently.

All in all, these are the tips I have received and tested that seem to keep my iPod on for much longer. Enjoy and have fun!
